Student Days in Portland, Oregon
August 3-6, 2014
August 3 - 6 in scenic Portland, Oregon, the Construction Institute (CI) of the American Society of
Civil Engineers (ASCE) will present its signature Student Days for engineering students and faculty. This year’s Student Days offers the technically rich environment of the 2014 ASCE Pipelines conference as its backdrop. The students will be introduced to real-world engineering and practical perspectives within the pipeline industry. Student Days will be ripe with opportunity for students to interact with industry professionals, attend technical sessions at the conference, and visit with exhibitors.
Students will be joined by international expertise representing all sectors of the engineering industry at the conference. There will be opportunities to attend workshops and hear expert panelists discussing a variety of topics associated with the conveyance of water, wastewater, oil and gas. Students will be able to hear from and interact with speakers discussing environmental and regulatory, infrastructure assessment and monitoring, planning, design, construction, and operation of pipeline systems, in addition to learning about new and emerging technologies.
Top it all off with a technical tour at the Northwest Pipe Company’s Portland manufacturing plant. CI developed the Student Day’s program, which is specially designed to introduce Civil Engineering students to the wide variety of professional career options after graduation and provide opportunities to experience some of those first-hand. CI has continued to work closely with ASCE local sections and industry leaders in Pacific Northwest, California, Texas and New York to bring to students a Student Days program rich with interactive presentations and connections to leading experts in the field. A key feature of the program is the networking and job search advice the students receive as that interact with the conferences corporate sponsors and recruiters.
Students will work in teams of 6 to solve an engineering problem. Each team will be scored on their submitted bids and presentations. CI Board Members, corporate mentors and recruiters will be on site to evaluate the students and judge the winning team, based on their solution and presentation.
*All invited students will have hotel costs provided by CI, in addition to partial food and travel expenses.*
2014 Student Days is a unique chance to experience not only CI’s great event, but many attractions that fun vibrant Portland has to offer!
